A group of 36 exceptional political activists, journalists, parliamentary advisors and civil society leaders joined us for a geopolitical tour of East Jerusalem with conflict expert Dr. Shaul Arieli. After learning about the core issues of the conflict and an introduction to the Palestinian narrative, Shaul led participants to several sites where Israeli settlement construction is planned. The visits enabled participants to see the implications of settlement expansion on the Palestinian population first hand, and gain a deeper understanding of residency status and territorial contiguity issues faced by Palestinians. The tour prompted vibrant and illuminating discussions about future borders and negotiations, the reality of Palestinian East Jerusalemites, and the feasibility of the two-state solution.
This tour was supported with German Federal Foreign Office’s funds by ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen).
