On February 27th, a group of 25 journalists from a variety of mainstream Israeli media outlets joined us for a tour of the Gaza Envelope area around the Strip. The purpose of the tour was to discuss possible solutions to issues related to the “day after” in Gaza, understand the history of the area, and gain a deeper understanding of the current situation in the region.
During the tour, our participants met with journalist and Nahal Oz resident Amir Tibon as well as former minister and current Knesset Member Alon Schuster from the National Unity party. Schuster discussed the role of a comprehensive policy agreement in bringing lasting peace and how past government policies had strengthened, rather than weakened, Hamas.
Throughout the day, the group also discussed the role of the media in increasing public discourse on a political solution, as well as current media coverage and its influence on public opinion in Israel. Media plays a crucial role in raising awareness within Israeli society about the need for a realistic political vision that takes into account the needs of people on the ground—both on the Israeli and Palestinian sides.
