On Monday 15th March, we held a special briefing on Israel’s media coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict for members of the diplomatic community. Over the course of the last few months, we drafted a new policy paper ‘Covering the Conflict’ that provides an analysis of how the conflict is reported on; the editorial, operational and psychological obstacles faced by Israeli journalists and concrete recommendations on ways to overcome the barriers to issues like access and engagement with Palestinians.
Yael Patir, conflict expert and member of the Geneva Initiative’s steering committee, presented the findings to the diplomats which was followed by a discussion on what role the international community can play in promoting these matters and helping to support a culture of peace.
The event was hosted by the German Embassy in Israel, and representatives from the EU, UK, Canada, France and the Netherlands were in attendance.
