On the 13th December, we hosted a public event with former MK and Middle East expert Ksenia Svetlova to discuss her new book ‘On Heels in the Middle East’ and to delve into her experience as a journalist in the region. From her experiences in Tahrir Square to interviews with Yasser Arafat, Ksenia offered insights and anecdotes about regional political developments.
Delving into the recent normalization agreements, she explained that back in May, there was a deliberately timed anti-Palestinian campaign in the Gulf states. Which in hindsight, was clearly an effort by these states to prepare the the ground for normalized relations with Israel. According to her, while the Palestinian issue was sidelined by these Gulf states, it is only a matter of time before the issue returns.
“These deals do not free us from dealing with the Palestinian cause and striving for a just and equal agreement based on the right of self-determination,” she said.
The meeting was attended by dozens of Israelis and moderated by journalist Tal Schneider.
