Twenty-five diplomats from the EU, UK, China, Japan, Germany, Brazil, and more joined us on May 31st for a tour of the security/separation barrier with GI conflict and security expert Dr. Shaul Arieli. From different overlooks to the north, east, and south of Jerusalem, the group learned about the complex geopolitical considerations that have shaped Israeli policy in building – and, just as importantly, leaving unfinished – the controversial barrier along a route that diverges in key places from the Green Line.
Understanding the strategic goals and political pressures that shaped the route of the barrier prepares our international partners to become effective advocates of pro-two-state policies that ultimately align with Israel’s interests, as well as Palestinian ones.
