On November 23rd, dozens of Israeli and Palestinian peace-builders representing CSO members of the Two-State Solution Coalition led by the Geneva Initiative met with top EU diplomat Josep Borrell for a direct conversation about the needs, challenges, and opportunities of the peace camp and what the international community, and the EU in particular, can do to advance the two-state solution.
The meeting was reported in international media, and the EU published the High Representative’s remarks to the Coalition, including five main guiding steps:
1) Support the peace camp
2) Confront spoilers on all sides
3) Stick to the facts
4) Protect the UN and international law
5) Make full use of EU leverage.
Borrell noted that “if we want to build peace, we have to talk with the people who want peace, like you. I am here because I think that we have to support the voices of peace, or the voices asking for war will be too many.”
