Young Israeli Leaders: Reconciliation Workshop

On 1 February 2022, as part of reconciliation program, a new cohort of young Israeli leaders participated in a workshop on the conflict.
The first session was a panel discussion between a settler leader, Director oft he Yesha Council Yigal Dilmoni and representative of the Geneva Initiative, Yariv Oppenheimer. They engaged in an energetic debate touching on issues related to values, narratives and solutions. Core questions included: How do we deal with the tensions between connection to the land of Israel and preservation of a Jewish and democratic state? Is it possible to reconcile the continuation of the occupation with religious and moral values? How do we overcome the many obstacles in both societies on the road towards a peace agreement?
The second session was a direct conversation between former Palestinian Minister, Ashraf al-Ajrami and the group. Ashraf shared his analysis about the official and popular attitudes towards peace and the two-state solution, why the peace process has failed in the past and the concessions that Palestinians have been prepared to make throughout history. He declared that, “there is a political horizon” for peace despite the many obstacles and gave a detailed explanation of the main issues in the conflict, as well as presented the solutions.
The group includes parliamentary advisors, NGO leaders, political activists, religious leaders. Many are affiliated with the right of the political spectrum.
