GI Project Manager Ben Silberstein’s Hebrew Facebook post about lack of media coverage of Palestinian civilian casualties in the recent escalation went viral throughout Israeli media. The media storm was picked up by international media as well, with Ben’s interview by Business Insider published on Sunday.
Ben was the IDF trainer of the dog Zili (named after him) killed in a violent confrontation in Nablus last week. Ben writes about his mixed reaction to news about Zili’s death: sadness for a dog he trained and loved, and frustration about media coverage focused on the loss of an IDF dog that largely ignores the cost of the operation for innocent Palestinian civilians in Gaza and Nablus. In the Business Insider interview, he explains his motivation for speaking out: “We need to speak about the casualties of this conflict on both sides. That’s the only way we can go into reconciliation between the two peoples.”
